In conjunction with our strong desire to share the latest proven technologies and research with government agencies and engineering design firms, Rockford Blacktop is working to promote Perpetual Pavement for regional highway projects. Perpetual Pavement is specifically tailored to our climate and traffic conditions.
By using Perpetual Pavement in design and road building, the life of roads can extend to 50 years and more—while improving safety and cutting time, the cost of production and maintenance.
Perpetual Pavement uses multiple layers of durable asphalt. The Hot Mix Asphalt design begins with a strong, yet flexible bottom layer to resist tensile strain caused by traffic thereby stopping cracks from forming in the bottom pavement layer. A strong intermediate layer completes the permanent structural portion. The top, rut-resistant layer yields a surface that lasts many years before scheduled restoration.
When repairs are necessary, it is a simple, efficient and cost effective process of milling off the top layer for recycling, compacting and laying a new surface.
Benefits of Perpetual Pavement road construction include:
- No patching
- Rapid/inexpensive rehabilitation
- No reflective cracking
- Smoother, quieter ride
- Longer lasting surface
- Permanent elevation eliminates manhole adjustments or overlaying curb and gutter flow lines
- Environmentally favorable
